Flinders University is an integral part of Australia's respected higher education system and makes an important economic and social contribution to South Australia and to the nation.

The campus
Flinders is based in Adelaide but has a teaching and research presence associated with the medical course and other health-related activities in:
· various regional areas of South Australia
· the Northern Territory, and
· south-western Victoria.
Lincoln Marine Science Centre
Our Lincoln Marine Science Centre in Port Lincoln, a major aquaculture and fishing town, will expand as part of Marine Innovation South Australia , a joint initiative with the state government and the South Australian Research and Development Institute.
Australian Science and Mathematics School
Also located on our main campus is the recently established Australian Science and Mathematics School, the first secondary science school in Australia to be fully integrated with a university.
Accommodation
On-campus accommodation is now available for 560 students, with the opening of a new Student Village.
Educational programs
Flinders offers educational programs across a wide range of disciplines and professional fields. These include:
· generalist courses in humanities, social sciences, science and technology
· cross-disciplinary courses with a specific focus such as international studies, environmental studies, creative arts, behavioural science, health science, and new technologies
· professional programs in medicine, nursing, allied health, law, teacher education, engineering, psychology, social work, business and commerce, aquaculture, and tourism.
Teaching and learning
Flinders provides a high quality teaching and learning environment. While there is a strong focus on regular direct contact between staff and students, many courses use new information and communication technologies to supplement face-to-face teaching and provide flexible options .
The University was recognised for an ‘innovative and practical approach' to teaching in winning an institutional award through the Australian Awards for University Teaching in 2001, and individual awards in 2002, 2003, 2004, 2006 and 2007, including the University Teacher of the Year Award in 2004 and 2006.

Strategic alliances
Carnegie Mellon University
Flinders University, Carnegie Mellon University, from Pittsburgh USA and the State of South Australia signed a three-way agreement in 2005, confirming a significant new partnership.
Flinders Institute of Public Policy and Management and the Carnegie Mellon John Heinz III School of Public Policy and Management will collaborate in their postgraduate courses and research to bring benefits to students and staff and to the State.
TAFE SA
Flinders University and TAFE SA have entered into a further five-year period of close cooperation to maintain and extend flexible study options for South Australians thanks to a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the two institutions.
The new MOU will continue the formal agreement between Flinders and TAFE SA that covers cooperation across areas such as credit transfer, program delivery, research and development, marketing, strategic planning and professional development.
Innovative Research Universities Australia
Flinders has formed a strong alliance with similar universities across Australia's mainland states.
We are a founding member of Innovative Research Universities Australia, which brings together:

· Griffith University (Brisbane)
· James Cook University (Queensland)
· La Trobe University (Melbourne)
